UNFOLDING STORIES OF IRISH MOTHERHOOD IN THE 70S THROUGH THE WORD OF POET – EAVAN BOLAND

Eavans Boland’s poetry explores feminism and nationalism to critique moments of Irish history and independence. Her poetry comes from a perspective of the woman which was rare of that time. Her poem ‘This Moment’ captures the simple precious moments between a mother and child in 1970s suburban Dublin. But some areas of the state experienced a very different moment of suburban life, many surrounding death of a loved one during times of the troubles in Northern Ireland.

This publication explores the unfolding of stories from the perspective of mothers around Ireland through image and the words of Eavan Boland’s poetry. The publication was printed on velum and can be folded in different ways to reveal different narratives through layering and engaging with the piece. I brought this piece into web, keeping with the concept of folding and exposing content, while staying true to the form of the book and its folds.
