CLEANING UP OUR CURRENT DIGITAL WASTE CRISIS

For a collaboration project with Wove, we were challenged to pinpoint the underlying issues, and derive a solution aimed at cleaning up our current digital waste crisis targeting middle- aged working professionals. Through extensive research and survey findings, we came to a solution of the Red Dot Green Dot initiative which ranks peoples contribution to digital waste but also contributes to their own digital health.

We proposed a collaboration with Apple, we have designed an app that will be built by default into the health and wellbeing app already existent on your iPhone. The app will rank your digital waste contribution and how this is contributing to your overall digital health. It visually works off coloured dots that will appear on the top right hand corner of app, highlighting the number of notifications. eg. Emails. On a scale of red to green, the red dot indicates that a particular app is negatively contributing to digital waste, but also to your own digital health. While the green dot promotes a sense of well being and positivity, you are managing your digital waste but you have also contributed to your own mental well being by achieving the green dot. The theory behind the coloured dots is that colors subconsciously impact our actions, so through the use of color, we hope that these dots will encourage positive behavioral changes in digital hoarders.
